It's All in the Prep

You can buy the best turf in the world, but if the ground underneath isn't right, you'll have a bumpy, patchy mess within a few months. That's why we spend the time getting it right before a single roll goes down. We strip the old turf or clear the weeds, rotavate the soil, level it, rake it, firm it, and then lay fresh turf on top.

It takes a bit longer than just slapping turf down, but the difference is night and day. You end up with a flat, even lawn that roots in quickly and stays looking great.

It's All in the Prep

Fresh Turf, Laid Properly

We get our turf from suppliers we've used for years, and we always lay it the same day it's delivered — turf doesn't hang about, and neither do we. We lay it in a staggered pattern like brickwork, keep the joints tight, trim it neatly around the edges, and water it in well.

If your soil's in poor shape — and it usually is on new builds — we bring in topsoil and soil improver first. There's no point putting good turf on bad ground. We make sure the foundation's right, then the turf does the rest.

Turfing Across Greater Manchester

We lay turf all over — Atherton, Tyldesley, Leigh, Westhoughton, Hindley, Bolton, Wigan, Worsley, and the wider area. Whether it's a small back lawn or a full front-and-back job, we put the same effort into the groundwork.

We'll also talk you through how to look after your new lawn — when to water, when to mow, what to avoid in the first few weeks. We want it to look as good in six months as it does on day one.

Turfing FAQ

Things people often ask us about turfing.

We can lay turf all year round, but spring and autumn are the sweet spot — the cooler, damper weather helps it root in quickly. We avoid hard frost and scorching heat, but otherwise, we crack on.
Give it about 2-3 weeks for the roots to get established. After that, light use is fine. You can properly use it after about 6-8 weeks.
We tend to stick to real turf — we think a proper lawn beats plastic every time. But if you're interested in artificial, give us a ring and we can have a chat about it.
